The renowned publisher has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Comes After Poor Feedback
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a distinct direction.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
Trend of Strategic Hires
The news mirrors a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the complete message from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented creators we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that relationship to continue.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game testing phase was informative. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the requirement for a clearer identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having spent the last 15 years producing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep seeing the development of the game in the weeks to follow.
